HOTBLOGS: Lipstick & Public Diaries

Beckie DiLeo’s most recent art exhibit was done in the form of fashion illustrations. She exhibited her pieces this past Saturday May 14th at Walnut Studios. I also felt very honored to be one of the subjects of her illustrations. Here are some images from her exhibit:

ANA

a little while back I worked on what was going to be a video editorial look book for Nadya Toto. Unfortunately due to some unforeseen circumstances the look book didn’t work out…but we still did get some cool images. The concept was Masquerade/Eyes Wide Shut.

Lovas FW 2011 Look Book Shoot

I got the pleasure to work with Wesley Badanjak again for his LOVAS FW 2011 look book. Frances Coombe from Elite returned as one of the models and we had Madison Schill from Ford as the theme this season was Sisters. The collection was inspired by Wesley’s mother and her sister when they immigrated to Canada from Croatia. Here are a few behind the scene shots from the shoot day:

Garbage Couture

So lately I have been working away making dresses out of garbage bags for a team of photographers Contact submission. I unfortunately didn’t take behind the scenes shots from the more recent shoot days. I think I was too tired as some of the dresses took me over 7hrs to make. There were two almost gowns and 4 short dresses. Here are some behind the scenes from the first day…hopefully I will have some good stills to put up in the near future.

Hair Care that Works!!!

L’Oreal Paris New Hair Care Collection

Total Repair 5

So I admit I am a total product junkie. It may be a result that I continually get bored of my natural hair colour so I do things like dye it red or dark brunette, and when the upkeep becomes too much I strip it out and go back to my natural hue of blonde. But from all that torture my hair is just not as great as it used to be, say bye bye to natural waves and healthy shine. Well I have been scouring high and low to find products to try and revive my hair instead of chopping it all off and starting fresh. So when L’Oreal started advertising their new hair care line I thought I may try it. When I saw it on sale in my local drug store I bought every piece from the Total Repair 5 Collection; shampoo, conditioner, hair mask, overnight treatment, leave in detangler treatment; junkie, I know…Anyways to my surprise for the first time ever my hair has taken to all the claims and actually looks healthier, feels softer, has more body and has more shine! I felt I had to share as I know many of us are obsessed with finding the perfect product. Well as of right now this one comes pretty close and it is at a much more affordable price than the professional brands. I will definitely recommend this particular collection and I have a feeling the other ones in it will be just as great.

Styles to Buy Now!

The 70′s Are Back!

That’s right, the 70′s are back! They made a huge comeback on the spring 2011 runways of such style setters Marc Jacobs, Etro, Emilio Pucci as well as Pink Tartan here in Toronto! I love how the happy colours and styles that are very figure flattering have returned…think bell bottoms and caftans!

Here are some fabulous pieces to get the look:

1…Missoni Mare Bolivar Crochet-Knit Maxi Caftan. $1020 US available at net-a-porter. I love this piece how fabulous are the Missoni knits anyways with such a vintage vibe, but then a full length caftan in their iconic knit, I couldn’t be more in love, and it is soo figure flattering. Dress it up or down, you are set for the season with a great pair of flats or go truly 70′s with a fabulous pair of wedges. As well I have seen some amazing long dresses from the likes of Etro and Velvet at Holt Renfrew during my last shopping trip.

2…House of Harlow 1960 Large Feather Cuff. $98 US available at shopbop.com and also at Holt Renfrew in Canada. I am absolutely in love with Nicole Richie’s House of Harlow collection and this large feather cuff is no exception. It is gold plated and would layer great with other cuffs and bangles for that truly 70′s vibe.

3…Etro Embroidered Silk Chiffon Poncho. $720 US available at net-a-porter. This beautiful poncho would look great layered over one of the many selections of bell bottom jeans available this season, or a great pant like the flare from Alice + Olivia.

4…Alexis Bittar Bangles. Top: Modernist Rhodium Large Ocean Ripple Hinge Bracelet, $425 US. Left: Gold Sophia Hinge Bracelet in sundown, $295 US. Right: Small Square Bangle in light sage, $85 US. Alexis Bittar Lucite bracelets are always stylish, and they are right on trend with the colour offerings this season: light sage, sundown, silver, steel blue, muted pink, warm gray and black. Wear them in stacks to really make a statement.

5…Twelfth St By Cynthia Vincent Jagger Zip Front Wedge Sandal. $395 US this style exclusive to shopbop.com. I love this wedge by Cynthia Vincent, it has made a comeback after being so successful last season and you can still get the plain leather ones at many different retailers, but I love the twist with the printed canvass straps on the wood platform. I will be wearing these with bell bottom jeans, caftans as well as cute sundresses all summer long.

6…Alice + Olivia Stacey Flared Pants. $253 US available at shopbop.com. I love how there is now a fabulous bell option in non-denim. This is a great way to mix up this trend for work or when you just don’t feel like wearing jeans. Pair it with great wedges and floaty tunic top with piled on bangles for a truly chic sophisticated take on the 70′s trend.

7…Marc Jacobs Runway Look Jumpsuit. This Jumpsuit is already sold out at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Barneys. It is so incredibly fabulous and does 70′s so perfectly. There are many inspirations that can be found in trend shops like H&M and Topshop, so go ahead and really do this look up.

8…Dauphines of New York The Front Row Headband. $80 US at shopbop.com. I love the look of the headband worn this way. I am crazy about the Dauphines of New York collection when I first came across it on shopbop, and I think that this makes that 70′s look more current with the mixture of chain, rhinestones and faux pearls.

The 70′s may actually be one of my favourite trends for Spring/Summer 2011. It is so happy and bright and really feels perfect for coming out of these winter months, and they are figure friendly!

New Spring Editorial

This was a really fun and interesting concept that I styled last summer with spring/summer 2011 collections with a really amazing and incredibly talented team.
