Spring 2012 Trends

Light Bright Accessories

Colour is one of the biggest trends seen on the runway this season and a great way to start incorporating it without it being too scary is with some great accessories. I also recommend starting to incorporate them now to help get into the fresh spring feeling during the winter blahs that everyone is feeling. Here are a few great pieces to get some inspiration.

1. Dannijo Capucine Necklace. $445 USD. This is such an amazing piece, I instantly fell in love and snatched it up when I saw it in one of my favourite stores, The Narwhal, here in Toronto. I have already started wearing it with sweaters and it is a great piece to just add with a basic white tee or tank in the spring or summer.

2. Forever 21 Lacquered Heart Earring Set. $3.80 Cdn. These are so cute and a super affordable way to incorporate the Neon and bright colour trend into your wardrobe and also one of the most subtle and least costly commitments to the trend.

3. Christopher Kate Printed Modal and Cashmere Scarf. $530 USD. I am in love with any cashmere modal blend scarves, they feel like heaven when you wear them. This scarf buy Christopher Kane scarf would brighten up a winter coat now and then look great with a navy blazer in the spring.

4. Proenza Schouler Ps1 Medium Suede Satchel. $1975 Cdn. The Ps1 is such a classic and timeless bag and definitely on my wishlist. The tropical green is a a great way to brighten up the bag and helps distinguish it from all the boring black handbags out there.

5. CC Skye Neon Riviera Cuff. $375 USD. This cuff is such a great mix with the neon yellow and gold and is such a great statement. I could see it with one of the amazing printed maxi dresses that came down so many runways or with a military styled look for a fun pop of colour.

6. Aldo Fravel Suede Shoe. $90 USD. These suede shoes from Aldo are right on trend with the return to the pointed ladylike toe and the bright neon peach colour. I would love to see this with a great pair of skinny denim and a silk shirt.

7. Brian Atwood Claudia Embroidered Suede Pumps. $2115 USD. These shoes are a work of art, from the stunning electric aqua suede to the embroidered backs, they are a true statement. Your best bet, pair them with simple separates and let the shoes be the statement and show them off!

cb2 Now Open

Finally after much anticipation cb2 has finally opened it’s doors in Toronto. The extended wait definitely was worth it, as the newly restored former Big Bop has been brought back to it’s old glory on the exterior and it is a fantastic shopping experience on the inside, the furniture and accessories are like candy for the home. Here are a few pieces that I am lusting after:

Parlour Bold Chair $899
Concrete Nightstand $349
3-Piece Anemone Vase Set $39.95
Cage Brass Pendant Lamp $199
Versus Galvanized Trunk $179

The store is definitely worth a visit…happy shopping.

My Current Obsession…

DL & Company

As most people who know me, I am obsessed with anything skulls, I have earrings, necklaces, tee’s etc. It could be my love affair with Alexander McQueen or just my dark side. Last winter I was introduced to this amazing brand at Pink Tartan‘s store Seventy Seven in Yorkville, DL & Company, they have amazing skull pieces. Since then I have explored their site and found many amazing things, from skull candles (great interior home accents), stationary, candle snuffers and sculptures. Here are a few of my favourite pieces from their memento mori collection. They will definitely be on my wish list for this upcoming holiday season:

skull candle snuffer
coloured skull candles
correspondance box with skull note cards
brass skull - silver

Breaking News…

H&M + Marni!

So the news is out, H&M‘s next designer collaboration is definitely one worth lining up for…at least for most true fashion fans. The collaboration is with the amazing Italian brand, Marni and it will be released March 8, 2012 in 260 stores around the world.

Consuelo Castiglioni, Founder and Creative Director of Marni says that it is going to be a great partnership with H&M. Shoppers can expect to see vivid colours and bold prints along with the signature Marni clothing staples, with full pleated skirts, dresses, cropped trousers and jacquard knit, and fabrics range from silk to crisp cotton poplin. There will also be jewelry and accessories. All I can say, is finally, H&M has gotten back to the amazing designer collaborations that fashion fans want.

Hair Pins for the Hair Challenged

Bumble and Bumble Pin Tin

As all my friends know especially the ones who are hair and makeup artists, I am completely challenged when trying to do my hair. I have had them text me step by step instructions for when I have had to do my own hair for events. But now things have changed. I picked up the Bumble and Bumble Pin Tin the other day, which is in stores just in time for the holidays, and I am officially in love. This pin tin has 4 different styles of hair pins and are stored by type and size, it also comes with a few step by step instructions. I can honestly say I attempted one of the styles and I succeeded and got a ton of compliments at two separate fashion events. I also love the fact that they are white as they become part of the style. Plus I love how organized they stay. A definite recommendation.

Ode to Alexander McQueen

Behind the Scenes of a Shoot Inspired by Alexander McQueen

Anyone who knows me, knows that the designer who has always been my fave is Alexander McQueen. This summer I had the opportunity to attend the McQueen exhibit at the MET in NYC and I got so inspired by his incredible artistic genius and creative vision that I absolutely had to do a shoot that was a tribute to him and his incredible styling aesthetic. Here are some behind the scenes images from the shoot I did, shot by Cory VanderPloeg and hair and make-up by Sandra Yang and the incredible Natasha from Ford. A true dream team.

oh…HELLO!

Fabulous Fashion Illustrations at Hello Magazine TIFF Gala

During TIFF there are many fabulous galas and parties that everyone desperately wants to attend. One of those is the Hello Magazine party. This year they had fantastic live fashion illustration by the one and only Beckie DiLeo. Here are a few shots from this amazing event that I was so extremely lucky to get to attend.

One of the best Underlayers!

Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Primer

Smashbox cosmetics is a company that is extremely well known especially for their primers. The original primer has garnered a cult following. Now there is a new addition to the family and I have to say I am pretty excited about it. The Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Primer is a primer that provides amazing hydration to the skin yet is still oil free. Something that has been hard to find. This is a great item to have in your makeup bags for this upcoming fall and winter when the heat gets turned on and your skin starts drying out. Try it, I definitely recommend it. And bonus…it’s paraben free!

Missoni For Target….the countdown is on…are you ready?

The countdown is on for probably one of the most anticipated Target collaborations yet….that is right Missoni is doing a 400+ piece collection for target with pieces starting at $2.99 and going up to $599 with the majority of the collection under (that is right under!) $40. The collection will include housewares, bed linens, women’s clothing and accessories, men’s clothing and accessories and even wardrobe and accessories for all the little nuggets out there. There is also a bike and patio furniture. If you couldn’t tell I am over the top excited for this. I have found some great images from the campaign as well as the some pieces included in the September Vogue issue with Margherita Missoni that includes some of the Target pieces.

So far from all the feedback from the fashion editors this is definitely a collaboration worth checking out. It launches September 13th and goes till October 22nd. But I recommend being there the first day as I think the first drop wont last too long. I personally have my eye on many pieces…suitcase, rugs, housewares…etc.
